As part of our commitment to transparency and the safety of our students, I am posting this to inform you about a recent incident involving the PowerSchool student information system. We utilize PowerSchool as a database to store student and staff information. This communication is required under New York State Ed-Law 2-d and serves to outline the details of the incident and our ongoing response:
Scope of the Incident: On December 28, 2024 PowerSchool became aware of a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain information through one of their customer support portals, PowerSource. Through their investigation, PowerSchool determined that an unauthorized party gained access to PowerSchool customer data. This data included student (current and alumni) and staff information.
PowerSchool discovered this incident on December 28, 2024.Global Concepts Charter School was notified on January 7, 2025. Within Global Concepts Charter School, 3,470 student records were impacted. The accessed information included the following data fields: Enroll Status, Enroll State, Grade Level, Entry Date, First Entry Date, Last Exit Date, Gender, School ID, Date of Birth, Year of Birth, Age, Street, City, State, Zip Code, Notification Email, Student Email, Guardian Email, Entry Comment, Entry Code, Exit Code, Exit Code Description, Father, Home Phone Number, Mailing City, Mailing Street, Mailing Zip Code, Mother, Alert Guardian, Alert Other, Alert Medical Populated, Exit Comment, Contact-1 Cell Phone, Contact-1 Email, Contact-1 First Name, Contact-1 Last Name, Contact-1 Relationship.
The Social Security Number field was also accessed but Global Concepts Charter School does not populate that information within PowerSchool.
