We are one week out from the Theater department's performances of Spring Break by Joe Calarco. This is a co-production we're doing with students from Alden High School who are in a similar class to our Comprehensive Drama class. We are performing it at the FAC next Friday May 10 at 7 pm. We will also be performing the play at Alden HS Sat May 11 at 7 pm.
Our process has been unique as the students have worked together to create certain sections of the play. We also have a couple students who have Alden students as their scene partner. The kids have really enjoyed working together!
About the play -On the first night of Spring Break, new friendships are made and old ones are tested as the nineteen teenagers we first met in Winter Break continue to find joy, heartache, and wonder in the world they’re trying to find their place in. Commissioned for the Educational Theatre Association’s 2022 International Thespian Festival, Spring Break is a candid look into another crucial moment in these teenagers’ lives. -
On April 20th, 2024 our Global Concepts Charter School Jazz Ensemble performed at the Buffalo State University Jazz Festival. We were one of just four high school jazz ensembles selected to perform at this event. These schools included St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, City Honors School and Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. Our students had the honor of performing with guest artist and guitarist Bob Sneider, who is the professor of jazz guitar at the prestigious Eastman Conservatory of Music as part of the festival.
